More open sea

A completely different card than the last one, even though it uses the same stamp set.
The written background stamp was stamped in baja breeze ink, I then over stamped the compass with crumb cake ink. The ship was embossed with tempting turquoise embossing powder on top of versamark ink. A simple strip of pool party card cut on both sides with the scallop border punch makes a ric-rack style edge, I then wrapped some of the brand new pool party baker's twine around the spine to complete a simple card

A close up of the stamped images, embossed ship, ric-rack edge and baker's twine

This is not my usual style of card as it is all one layer but I like the overall effect, let me know what you think of my card and any comments about the new products.

The Open Sea

Stampin' Up! have released their new mini catalogue, their first summer mini for the UK market, and to say its bursting with fun new "stuff" is somewhat an understatement.

The stamp set I just had to have and play with first is "The Open Sea" a fabulous stamp set with a male theme (if you want it to be, that is)

Here is my card, this uses the open sea stamp set and the amazing new label collection framelits dies.

Here is a close up of the beautiful ship from this stamp set, stamped simply in early espresso ink on whisper white card, this is the only card if you like stamping (in my opinion), it takes the ink to perfection. I cut the shape using the brand new framelit dies and made a frame using two of the framelit dies, I embossed the frame using the square lattice embossing folder.

As you can see from this close up I have used all the stamps from this set, the world and compass stamped with versamark and then embossed with clear embossing powder on my base card. The next layer is whisper white card, stamped using the writing stamp, spritzed with chocolate chip, crumb cake and early espresso inks. I layered this onto a piece of hessian for extra texture and finished with a stamped sentiment and embossed with gold embossing powder.

I am really pleased with how this card turned out, leave me a message to let me know what you think.

The open sea

Here I'm showing you a card made with the fabulous open sea stamp set from Stampin' Up!

The background was stamped, scrunched and then inked over the ridges to add depth and texture.
I stamped the vellum in versamark ink and heat embossed with clear powder, using the world stamp from this set. Some bakers twine tied over one side adds further texture.

What do you think? Is this your style?

Flowers, flowers and more

I had a look through some of my crafting photos and found a few that I hadn't shown you before, the theme of today's post is flowers as the title says.

This first card is shaped using a die from Stampin' Up! framelit die.

A scrunch flower, a very simple flower to make.

A close up of the scrunch flower, you can just see the rhinestone brad peeping out.

A close up of the greeting.

A similar card in a different colour palette, using the scrunch flower technique.
Here is a close up of the flower.

The whole card.

A simple twist of bakers twine finishes this very simple card.
Is this your style? Let me know, leave a comment at the end of this post.

Tags!

Here are three tags I have made using 3D flowers, all a little different but all using spice cake designer series papers.

A close up.

You don't have to add loads of layers to make a 3D flower, this is just the first layer.

Leave me a comment of what you think.

3D flower instructions

Well today, Saturday I am holding a workshop to make 3D flowers using the fabulous Stampin' Up! die called Blossom Party, available until the end of April, only through your Stampin' Up! demonstrator.

First cut 4 of the largest flowers from the die using any card or designer series papers of your choice.
I have used rose red card so it shows up well in my photo's.

Then I daubed around the edge of each flower using soft suede ink.
I cut the flowers as shown in the photo (although I have them lined up in reverse order-sorry!)
I cut the first flower into the centre, between the petals, the second flower was cut into the centre and then one petal was cut out, the third flower was cut into the centre and then two petals were cut out in one piece and the final flower was cut into the centre and three petals were cut out in a single piece, I hope that makes sense.

I used the first flower and over lapped two of the petals and glued them together to form this shape, this is the base of my flower.

I then took the flower with the single petal cut out, again over lapped two of the petals and glued them together.

This is what my first two flowers look like from the underneath side. I then cut a small section off the base of my second flower, as this was a slit I then turned the flower and cut it again across the opposite direction as shown in the photo.

I continued to gluing each flower piece that I had, overlapping a whole petal until I got to the three petal flower and smaller, for these I overlapped by a little part and glued carefully along the edge. Each flower has a cut out of the centre except the first largest flower. I added shape to my petals at this stage with a bone folder, when using paper this is easier to achieve so be careful not to rip between the petals.
This is what all the parts look like at this stage.

My chosen glue for this is Tombo multipurpose glue, this is a fabulous glue that dries clear, so although it shows white in the photograph, it will dry clear. I have begun to layer my flower, starting with the largest piece as the base I glued the next largest into the centre, twisting the flower so the petals sit between the petals of the previous layer.

You continue to stick the pieces on top of each other going from largest to smallest, the double and single petals are like small tubes and I stick them in using tweezers to hold them as they are quite small. As you can see in this final photograph the glue is showing white, it does however dry completely clear and then does not show.

I hope to take some photographs of the flowers we make on Saturday and post them soon.
I hope you like my 3D flower instructions using the blossom party die, if you would like to purchase this die, please contact me for details, it will be available to order until the end of April as we are then saying goodbye to the mini catalogue where this item is from, click on the link to take a closer look.

I inked all my edges with soft suede to make them all pop.

Here is a close up of the swirl and butterfly
